“I’m going to sue you! Your dog attacked my child!” the woman yelled as she rushed into the yard, her face twisted with anger. In her arms, she clutched a crying little girl, who was holding her stomach where a clear scratch was visible.

I froze, stunned. My dog, Rocky, was peacefully lying near the flowerbed, wagging his tail gently. We had him for almost five years—he was intelligent, kind, and never once showed aggression. Yet here was this woman accusing him of something unimaginable. Her voice was full of fear, as though we had a dangerous animal in the yard. She had already called the police and demanded that the “dangerous” dog be put down immediately.

Shaking with a mix of fear and confusion, I tried to remain calm.

“My dog wouldn’t hurt anyone,” I said, trying to steady my voice. “He’s friendly and loves kids. Maybe your daughter did something. If you don’t believe me, we have security cameras. Would you like to see the footage?”

The officers agreed, and we went inside. The camera above the door covered the entire yard, including the area where the incident took place.

We began playing the footage.

There was Rocky, lying peacefully by the bench, calmly observing sparrows fluttering around. A few moments later, the woman and her daughter walked into the yard.

The girl slowly approached Rocky… We slowed the video down, and what we saw left us speechless. My dog…

The girl was holding something in her hand… something metallic…

It was a stun gun.

The officers exchanged surprised glances.

The footage clearly showed the girl walking toward Rocky, reaching out with the stun gun, and then—click. The dog yelped, jumped up in alarm, and dashed away in panic. The girl stumbled backward and fell to the ground. The scratch was likely caused by her fall or perhaps by a nearby bush.

The woman went pale when she saw the footage.

“This can’t be…” she whispered, shaken. “This… this isn’t hers…”

One of the officers turned to her.

“Where did the child get the stun gun?”

The woman collapsed onto the floor.

“It’s… my husband’s… He kept it in the car… she must’ve taken it without asking…”

We sat in stunned silence. Rocky, seemingly relieved, quietly walked into the house as if checking that everything was okay.

My poor dog. The things he had to endure from these careless and inconsiderate people!
