It was an emotional day on the set of Live with Kelly and Mark as the beloved daytime talk show wrapped its final episode at its longtime Upper West Side home before heading downtown to a new studio. The farewell taping took place on April 1, marking the end of an era at the studio that had housed the show for decades.
For 37 years, 7 Lincoln Square—located at 67th Street and Columbus Avenue—served as the backdrop for the show, beginning with its original hosts Regis Philbin and Kathie Lee Gifford. Over the years, the space became synonymous with the spirit of Live.
Since joining in 2001, Kelly Ripa has remained the show’s steady presence through multiple co-host transitions, from Michael Strahan to Ryan Seacrest. In 2023, she was joined by her husband, Mark Consuelos, turning Live into a family affair both on- and off-camera.
The move holds special meaning for the couple. Speaking to PEOPLE, they reflected on the deep emotional ties they have to the now-former studio. “This place is where our kids grew up,” Consuelos shared. “Even when they were just babies, they’d be backstage visiting mom.”
Now both 54, Ripa and Consuelos are parents to three grown children: Michael, 27, Lola, 23, and Joaquin, 22. Ripa looked back on juggling motherhood with her career during a time when maternity leave was far less common. “I had my kids during a time when workplaces weren’t really equipped for that,” she said. “But thankfully, this show let me be a full-time mom and full-time host. That’s rare, and I never took it for granted.”
Their history with the studio runs even deeper. It played a pivotal role in rekindling their relationship. After a brief breakup in 1996, both were invited as surprise guests on Live with Regis and Kathie Lee for a Mother’s Day special honoring an All My Children fan. Though they tried to bow out, fate had other plans. When they reunited onstage, sparks flew again—and the very next day, Consuelos proposed. A spontaneous trip to Las Vegas sealed the deal, and they tied the knot.
Now, Live with Kelly and Mark joins other ABC programs in relocating to 7 Hudson Square, the newly upgraded New York City headquarters of the Walt Disney Company. Dubbed The Robert A. Iger Building, the modern space is already home to The View and The Tamron Hall Show, with Good Morning America set to follow later this year.
