Queen Camilla has been advised to rest following a recent diagnosis of a chest infection, leading to changes in her upcoming schedule. At 77, Camilla is unable to attend her Thursday engagements, including the important Field of Remembrance ceremony at Westminster Abbey, where the Duchess of Gloucester will step in on her behalf.
Buckingham Palace confirmed that the Queen Consort will also miss a reception at Buckingham Palace that evening, held to honor Olympic and Paralympic athletes. This event will now be hosted solely by King Charles.
Following medical guidance, Camilla is recuperating at home but remains hopeful about attending key events over the weekend. She is aiming to participate in the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday and the solemn Cenotaph service in Whitehall on Sunday.
The Palace emphasized that her illness appears to be minor, possibly a result of the couple’s recent extensive travels to Australia, Samoa, and India. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer joined many well-wishers in expressing hopes for her swift recovery.
One supporter commented, “I pray she has a speedy recovery.” However, not all reactions have been sympathetic. Some critics have questioned the couple’s capacity to lead. One individual remarked, “Charles and her need to step down. Their health issues prevent them from fulfilling their duties. Queen Elizabeth planned this all along to minimize their time in power!”
Others were more understanding, with one person suggesting, “She’s elderly. The trip likely wore her out, and probably Charles too.”
This latest health concern comes after Camilla’s previous struggle with COVID-19 in February, which also disrupted her schedule. Despite these challenges, the Queen Consort remains dedicated to her role. Recently, she completed work on a documentary focusing on domestic violence awareness, set to air next week.
Meanwhile, King Charles is resuming his cancer treatment following the couple’s return from their overseas tour.
